HIJIRI IKENOBO

The Hijiri Ikenobo school was started in 1979 by the current Head Mistress Gyokusel Okasawa. The late Ikebana research scholar/professor, Mr. Masanobu Kudoh, greatly encourage her to start this school.

The foundation and essence of Hijiri Ikenobo is the pursuit of this original Ikebana form, which is the blending of the traditional upright style (Tachiike or Shoka) with the modern free style (Jiyu-bana), emphasizing harmony and targeting the complete balance and total composition of Ikebana.

Head Mistress Gyokusel Okasawa was born in Japan in 1926 and still teaches Ikebana classes to her students in Tokyo.
